WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-12) to visiting Villanova in BIG EAST action on Saturday evening. The Hoyas fall to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led the Hoyas with nine kills and four blocks while Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) added seven kills and seven digs. Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) tallied 21 assists to go with seven digs, three blocks and three service aces.
Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) had a team-high nine digs for the Blue & Gray.
A highly competitive opening set saw 17 ties and seven lead changes throughout the stanza. The Hoyas jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Villanova (11-6, 4-2 BIG EAST) rallied back with a 4-0 run to take a 4-3 lead. Battling back and forth the entire frame, GU used a 3-0 run while trailing 19-18 to take a 21-19 advantage off a Speech kill to force a Villanova timeout. Coming out of the huddle, the Wildcats evened things up at 21-21 and again at 22-22 before scoring the final three points of the set for the 25-22 win.
In the second, a close start to the set quickly turned to VU's favor behind a pair of 5-1 runs to lead 15-7. Georgetown would begin to chip away at the deficit, pulling within three points, down 18-15, but couldn't get any closer en route to the 25-19 decision for Villanova.
Georgetown wasn't able to get the offense to click in the third set as the Wildcats wrapped up the match with the 25-12 victory.
Amanda Pedersen-Henry led Villanova with 14 kills and three blocks while Mallory Potts added eight kills and Allie Loitz collected a match-best 11 digs.
The Hoyas hit the road once again as they head to the Big Apple to face St. John's on Wednesday, October 11, at 6 p.m.
