WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team fell 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13) to visiting No. 13 Creighton in the 2017 season finale on Saturday night. The Hoyas wrap up the campaign 8-22 overall and 2-16 in BIG EAST play.

Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) led all players with 25 kills while Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) added 15 and Aima Eichie (Castle Rock, Colo./Rock Canyon/UC Davis) chipped in 12. Claire Mihm (Rolling Hills, Calif./Chadwick School) chimed in with eight kills for the Blue & Gray while Paige McKnight (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody) paced the offense with 48 assists.

Defensively, Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) hauled in a match-high 28 digs.

Playing in their 11th five-set affair of the season, and their second in as many days, the Hoyas took an early 5-0 lead in the final frame before going up 8-5 at the switch. Creighton (23-6, 16-2 BIG EAST) chipped away at the deficit, knotting things up at 10-10 before pushing its lead to 12-10. Three-straight points from GU gave the Hoyas the edge, up 13-12, to force a Bluejay timeout, but Creighton came out of the huddle and closed out the match on a 3-0 run for the victory.

Georgetown tallied an impressive 20 kills in the opening set while hitting at a .421 clip to set the tone of the match. Speech notched seven kills in the frame while Sinnette added six. Creighton battled back from a 19-10 deficit to pull within one, down 22-21 and later 23-22, but the Hoyas closed out the stanza on a kill from Eichie and a service ace from Higareda to win, 25-22.

The Bluejays responded in the second set with an impressive frame of their own. Creighton notched 17 kills while hitting .556 in the set. With the Hoyas leading 12-11, CU used runs of 5-1 and 9-2 to even the match at one set apiece.

A back-and-forth battle in the third set saw 13 combined ties and lead changes. Tied at 19-19 late in the frame, a 5-2 run from the Blue & Gray gave the home team three set points to work with and sealed the set victory on the third chance.

In the fourth, neither side could put any more than three points between each other until the final rotations of the frame. Tied at 15-15, Creighton pushed its lead to 21-18 before the Hoyas rallied back to make it a 22-21 game. Clamping down, the Bluejays scored the final three points of the set to force the deciding fifth set.

Jaali Winters led Creighton with 16 kills and 10 digs for a double-double.

Georgetown finished the 2017 season with an 8-22 overall record and a 2-16 mark in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas return 13 letterwinners, including five starters, in 2018.
