Lema Named Second Team All-American

Dec. 7, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer senior midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) was named Second Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday evening. It is Lema's first career honor and GU's first since 2015.

Lema was a First Team All-Great Lakes Region selection last week. Additionally, he was also a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree for the second-consecutive year. He was fourth on the squad in scoring with four goals and four assists for 12 points on the season. Lema tallied two game winners and was the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23.

The senior captain has five goals and 12 assists for 22 points.

This marks the ninth All-American under Head Coach Brian Wiese on the Hilltop. It is the fifth time in the last six years that the Blue & Gray has had at least one All-America honoree.

The Hoyas finished the season with a mark of 14-4-2. Georgetown claimed the 2017 BIG EAST Championship and earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth. It marked the second championship in three years for the Blue & Gray as well as the second tournament championship in program history.
