WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated Morgan State by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday. The Hoyas won five of six singles matches to overcome losing the doubles point.
Morgan State took the advantage in the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 2 the duo of Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School) and Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) won 6-3.
The Hoyas bounced back by dominating in singles play, with their wins at No. 1, No. 2, No.3, No. 5, and No. 6 coming in straight sets. Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) won at No. 1 (6-2, 6-4). Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School) at No. 2 and Madeline Foley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall St. Marks) at No. 6 both won by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
GU also picked up wins from Nakagawa at No.3 and Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) at No. 5. Nakagawa won 7-5, 6-1 and de Chatellus won 6-1, 6-0.
Georgetown returns to the court on Friday, February 24 when it hosts George Washington at noon.
