WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated George Washington by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The Hoyas were led by Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School) and Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School) who picked up wins in both of their singles and doubles matches.
The Blue & Gray led from the beginning after taking the advantage in the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2 the duo of Goodson and Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) won 6-3 and at No. 3 Lynham and Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont) won 6-1.
The Hoyas continued by dominating in singles play, with their wins at No. 2, No.4, No. 5 coming in straight sets. Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) got the win at No. 2 by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Lynham at No. 4 won 6-2, 6-2 and Goodson at No. 5 won by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Georgetown returns to the court on Sunday, March 5 when it travels to UC San Diego for a 2:30 p.m. ET match.
