GCU Day 1 
The Georgetown University women's golf team is in fifth place among 10 teams after the first day of play at the GCU Invite in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Hoyas shot an 9-over par 297 in the first round and were in second place, but posted a 12-over par 310 in the second round and fell to fifth place after 36 holes.
Portland State leads the field of 10 teams at 5-over par 581, with Seattle in second place at 19-over par 595. UAB is in third place (24-over par 600), Grand Canyon is fourth (26-over par 602) and the Hoyas are fifth at 31-over par 607.
Junior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) is Georgetown's top finisher after the first day of play, standing in a tie for fourth place at even-par 144. She was tied for first place after a 4-under par 68 in the opening round.
Sophomore Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) is tied for 12th place at 5-over par 149. She posted scores of 2-over par 74 and 3-over par 75, respectively.
Freshman Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) finished with a two-round score of 14-over par 158 and is tied for 29th place, with a 3-over par 75 in the opening round.
Freshman Kate Evanko (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) is in 32nd place at 15-over par 159 and sophomore Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) shot a 16-over par 160 and is tied for 33rd place.
The final round of play will be held on Sunday.
