Men's Soccer Releases Spring Schedule

March 2, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men’s soccer team announced its 2017 spring schedule on Thursday. The squad will face six teams on five dates including three matchups at Shaw Field.

The Blue & Gray will open the spring with a contest at The University of Pennsylvania on March 18. The Quakers went 5-6-6 a season ago, but brought in almost an entirely new coaching staff in preparation for the 2017 season.

The following weekend on March 25, GU will host three teams in an all-day affair at Shaw Field. Georgetown will host Army at 11 a.m., and George Washington University at 1:30 p.m. In between, the Black Knights and the Colonials will face each other at 12:15 p.m. Army went 9-8-2 last year and advanced to the Patriot League quarterfinals before falling to Colgate. GW went 8-5-5 last season.

On April 1, GU will travel to the University of Virginia for a noon tilt. UVA was 11-4-5 last year and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Stanford.

The final home match of the spring is slated for April 8 at noon against the University of Pittsburgh. The teams have not met since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013.

Georgetown will close out spring play on April 22 in a neutral-site matchup against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at Striker Park in Richmond, Va. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. UNC advanced to the NCAA College Cup last year, the squad failed to advance against Stanford in penalty kicks. The Tar Heels ended the season with a mark of 14-3-4.

The Hoyas finished the 2016 season with a mark of 6-9-2 overall and went 3-4-2 in BIG EAST Conference play to narrowly miss qualifying for the BIG EAST Tournament.
