Volleyball Begins Spring Play This Weekend

March 21, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University's volleyball team begins its nontraditional spring season this weekend as it welcomes a trio of regional opponents to McDonough Arena for a playdate on Saturday, March 25. The Hoyas then travel to State College, Pa., to face Penn State on Sunday.

Saturday's playdate will feature a pair of foes from the Nation's Capital, George Washington and American University, as well as West Virginia. The Blue & Gray open the day against the Colonials at 9 a.m., followed by the Eagles at 12:45 p.m. and the Mountaineers at 2 p.m.

Georgetown faced off against American in the 2016 season opener, falling 3-2 in a thrilling match between the local rivals. The Blue & Gray last played GW during the regular season in 2015 and against WVU in 2013.

Following the weekend's action, the Hoyas continue spring practice that culminates with an April 8 event against various squads at the Richmond Volleyball Facility.

Georgetown ended the 2016 campaign with a 7-24 overall record and a 3-15 mark in league play. The Hoyas graduate just two seniors and return 13 letterwinners for 2017, including 2016 All-BIG EAST Second Team standout Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest).
