March 4, 2017

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team has arrived in Milwaukee for the 2017 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament, presented by the Jeep Brand. The sixth-seeded Hoyas (17-11, 9-9 BIG EAST) will take on the No. 3 seed host Marquette University (22-7, 13-5 BIG EAST), in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at MU's Al McGuire Center.

For the second-consecutive season under Head Coach Natasha Adair, the Hoyas have earned a first-round bye in the postseason tournament.

On Wednesday, sophomore guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) and junior guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) were both named All-BIG EAST by the league office. White earned a spot on the second team, while Adomako was named honorable mention. The awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.

It was White's second-career honor after earning a spot on the second team last year as well as a place on the BIG EAST All-Freshman team. Earlier this season, White was a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection.

The guard is currently leading the team in scoring, averaging 15.1 ppg to rank fourth in the conference. The sophomore has a squad-best 89 steals which leads the BIG EAST Conference and ranks 12th in the nation. She also ranks 10th in the country with 3.30 steals per game. Along with 5.0 rpg, White has a squad-best 45 3-pointers this season.

It was Adomako's second-career conference award after earning a spot on the second team a season ago. As a freshman, she was the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and earlier this season she was selected Preseason All-BIG EAST.

Adomako ranks second on the team in scoring with 14.8 ppg which sits her at fifth in the league. She is pulling down 6.4 rpg, and has 33 blocks on the season as well as 16 steals. The guard has three double-doubles so far this season and has scored in double figures 21 times this year.

On Monday, senior forward Faith Woodard (Brandon, Fla./Freedom) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It was the sixth-consecutive week that a Hoya was on the honor roll, and Woodard's third honor this season.

Woodard had an impressive weekend in a difficult road swing for the Hoyas, averaging 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and a .567 shooting, highlighted by a career-high 31 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in a 79-70 loss at No. 19/18 DePaul on Sunday. In an 80-70 loss at Marquette, she managed 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

The guard is third on the team and sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring, averaging 14.7 ppg. She leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference in rebounds with 7.8 rpg, and is eighth in the conference in field goal percentage, hitting 47.5 percent (151-of-318). Woodard also leads the team in blocked shots and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with 1.6 bpg, she is second on the squad with 1.6 spg, which ranks her seventh in the league.

The host Golden Eagles are the third seed in the tournament and currently receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll. On Wednesday, sophomore Allazia Blockton was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team, while classmate Erika Davenport was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and fellow sophomore Natisha Hiedeman earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention squad.

The Hoyas are 3-13 all-time against the Golden Eagles, and this will be their first meeting in postseason play. Last weekend, the Hoyas fell, 79-70, at Marquette in the final games of the regular season. Earlier this year, Georgetown could not hold on to a first-half lead to fall, 84-77, at home. Four Hoyas scored in double figures in the contest. The Blue & Gray is 1-6 at the Al McGuire Center.

Georgetown is 14-30 all-time at the BIG EAST Tournament and 4-16 in the quarterfinals. This will be the first time the event will be held at the Al McGuire Center.

Sunday's game will be broadcast live on FS2 with Lisa Byington calling the play-by-play and LaChina Robinson serving as the color analyst. Live stats will be available on www.guhoyas.com.
