April 28, 2017 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior men's golfers Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Cardinal Gibbons [Fla.]) and Cole Berman (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) earned All-BIG EAST honors on Friday in a vote among the league coaches.
Madsen was selected All-BIG EAST First Team, while Berman was named to the second team for the second-straight year.
The news comes in advance of the 2017 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship Presented by Jeep, which will be held at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie Island, S.C., April 30 through May 2.
The BIG EAST Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year will be announced after the BIG EAST Championship.
Madsen enters the BIG EAST ranked among the top 10 in the league in stroke average, leading the Hoyas at 73.44 through 27 rounds this season. He has three top-five finishes this year and four among the top 20 overall. Madsen, who was the runner-up at last year's BIG EAST Championship, finished in second place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate in the fall (9-under par 204) and closed out the regular season with a second place showing at the Rutherford Intercollegiate (1-under par 212).
Berman, an All-BIG EAST second team pick last year as a sophomore, is second on the team with a 73.70 stroke average in 27 rounds this year. He has one top-10 finish this year and three among the top 20. His best finish was a tie for sixth place at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in October (even-par 214), and he closed out the regular season with a tie for 19th place at the Princeton Invitational (6-over par 219) and a tie for 11th place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate (6-over par 219).
