May 12, 2017

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's tennis senior Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) and sophomore Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) were named All-BIG EAST Conference by the league office on Friday. Their selection is the second year in a row that Georgetown has had two players earn All-BIG EAST honors under Head Coach Gordie Ernst. Overall, 12 women representing six schools were named All-BIG EAST.

Repeating the All-BIG EAST selection for a program-record fourth-straight year, Saperstein registered a 14-10 singles record, going 10-7 at the No.1 singles spot this season. With a pair of victories against Villanova at the BIG EAST Championship, she joined the short list of Hoyas to surpass 100 career victories. The senior started the spring strong winning four of her first five matches in 2017.

In doubles play, Saperstein posted an overall mark of 10-11 with a record of 5-7 at No. 1 and 3-2 at No. 2. She played a majority of matches with Nakagawa going 5-6.

Nakagawa posted a team-best 20-9 singles record this season going 8-1 at No. 3 and 4-0 at No. 1 with a mark of 3-5 at No. 2. She began the fall winning eight-consecutive matches and finished the 2017 campaign winning her final five singles matches including two at the BIG EAST Championship.

In doubles play, she won a squad-high 12 matches with a record of 12-10. The sophomore was 6-6 at No. 1 with a record of 5-6 with Saperstein. With partner Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School), Nakagawa was victorious in four of her final five matches including four appearances in the No. 1 position.

This is her second-consecutive All-BIG EAST honor.

The Georgetown women's team concluded the season 13-6 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play. The 13 victories ties last season's total which was the most wins since 2013 when the Hoyas captured 15 wins.
