No. 14 Hoyas Host Marquette on Saturday

Sept. 29, 2017

WASHINGTON - The No. 14 Georgetown University men's soccer squad (6-1-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) will host the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. It will be Georgetown's first conference home game of the season.

On Monday, freshman forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Dodson scored both goals in the Hoyas come-from-behind victory at DePaul in his home state on Saturday. He scored the game-tying goal in the 42nd minute and scored the game winner with just over a minute left to play in the game. Dodson came in off the bench and played 67 minutes in the win against the Blue Demons, with four shots all on goal. In the come-from-behind overtime victory over Stony Brook on Wednesday, Dodson took one shot and played 48 minutes.

Sophomore forward Achara (Enugu, Nigeria/Berkshire School [Mass.]) is leading the way for the Blue & Gray with five goals for 10 points on the season. He is followed by Dodson with three goals and one assist for seven points on the year. Senior captain Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) has two goals and one assist for five points and junior defender Peter Schropp (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) rounds out the top four with two goals for four points on the season. Junior midfielder Edson Martinez (Salem, Ore./North Salem) has a squad-best three assists on the year.

In the goal, JT Marcinkowski (Alamo, Calif./De La Salle) has made 20 saves with a 0.72 GAA in 749 minutes played.

Marquette (1-6-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) picked up its first victory of the season, beating Seton Hall, 4-2, last Saturday. On Tuesday, Daniel Szczepanek led all players in shots, finishing with a match-high three, including two shots on goal against Milwaukee. Marquette held an 11-9 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corners. UWM scored twice in the first half en route to reclaiming the Milwaukee Cup for the first time since 2013. Leading the team in scoring is Grant Owens with three goals on the season.

The Hoyas are 11-1-2 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 6-0-1 at home. Last year the squads tied, 1-1, in Milwaukee. The last meeting on the Hilltop was a 3-0 victory during the 2015 season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., and Saturday's contest can be seen live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action. Live stats will also be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
