WASHINGTON - Georgetown University men's soccer midfielder Christopher Lema (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) was selected by FC Dallas with the 34th selection overall of the 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Friday. Lema was the 11th pick of the second round.
Lema was a Second Team United Soccer Coaches All-American, a First Team All-Great Lakes Region selection and team MVP. Additionally, he was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree for the second-consecutive year. Lema tallied two game winners and was the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23. The senior captain had five goals and 12 assists for 22 points in his career on the Hilltop.
Lema played an integral role in three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2014, as well as one BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and two tournament championships in 2015 and 2017.
Lema graduated in December with a degree in marketing from the McDonough School of Business.
With Lema's signing, Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had 18 players drafted or sign with an MLS club in his tenure on the Hilltop. He has had at least one player drafted by an MLS club every year for the past six seasons. In December, goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski signed a professional contract with the San Jose Earthquakes forgoing his senior season.
