Georgetown Hosts Butler in BIG EAST Matchup on Friday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Butler University Bulldogs in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Friday evening at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Ben Gordon-Goldstein and Monika Moore calling the action.

Georgetown held on to defeat the Xavier University Musketeers, 65-60, in GU's BIG EAST Conference home opener on Tuesday afternoon at McDonough Arena. With the victory the Hoyas improved to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. She was followed by senior guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) who tallied 15 points and a team-high six assists. Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) rounded out those in double figures with 13 points and seven rebounds. Senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) led the Hoyas with 12 rebounds as well as eight points and three blocks.

The Hoyas outrebounded the Musketeers, 41-24, and forced 17 turnovers while committing just 14. Georgetown shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field, but allowed 45.7 percent (21-of-46) shooting from Xavier.

Georgetown has three Hoyas averaging in double figures. White is averaging 18.4 ppg, ranking third in the BIG EAST, to go along with 6.8 rpg and a league-high 39 steals. Venson is second on the squad with 14.8 ppg as well as 2.5 rpg. Petke is averaging 11.3 ppg and 9.8 rpg, which ranks third in the league.

The Hoyas are second in the league in scoring defense allowing just 57.8 ppg, and third in turnover margin holding a +5.08 advantage. GU is also third in rebounding margin outrebounding opponents by 1.2 rpg.

The Bulldogs (9-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) knocked off No. 21 Villanova at Jake Nevin Field House, 76-53, Tuesday evening. The Wildcats lost for just the second time this season behind a balanced BU attack that featured four players in double figures. Junior center Tori Schickel scored a game high 26 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Schickel added seven rebounds, six assists and two blocks to her stat line in 35 minutes of action. She is second on the squad in scoring with 16.6 ppg behind Whitney Jennings who is averaging 18.9 ppg.

The Hoyas are 4-4 all-time against the Bulldogs and 3-1 at home. Last year, the Hoyas defeated Butler, 83-72. Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) led the way with 21 points as four Hoyas scored in double figures. Mykia Jones scored 17 points with 15 of those coming the fourth quarter, White managed 16 points going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and Petke tallied her first career double-double with 11 points and a squad-best 12 assists.
