Georgetown to Host Villanova on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team (7-7 overall, 2-2 BIG EAST) will host the Villanova University Wildcats in a BIG EAST Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Matt Janus and Monika Moore calling the action. Georgetown fell to the Butler University Bulldogs, 66-57, on Friday evening in a league contest at McDonough Arena. Senior forward Cynthia Petke (Yaounde, Cameroon/-/Chipola College) led the way with her eighth double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 10 rebounds. She was followed by junior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) who had 11 points and was 6-of-6 from the line. Senior center Yazmine Belk (Queens, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) led the Hoyas with four blocks as she hit 100 career blocks in the contest.

The Hoyas were outrebounded by the Bulldogs, 44-33, but forced 16 turnovers while committing just nine. Georgetown shot 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the field, and allowed 44.4 percent (24-of-54) shooting from Butler. Tori Schickel led BU with 28 points and 15 rebounds, while Whitney Jennings had 26 points as the two combined for 54 of Butler's 66 points in the game.

Georgetown has three Hoyas averaging in double figures. White is averaging 17.9 ppg, ranking fourth in the BIG EAST, to go along with 6.6 rpg and a league-high 39 steals. Senior guard Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va./Yorktown/Virginia) is second on the squad with 14.0 ppg as well as 2.6 rpg. Petke is averaging 11.4 ppg and 9.9 rpg, which ranks third in the league. Belk is leading the conference in blocks with 2.1 bpg.

The Hoyas are second in the league in scoring defense allowing just 58.4 ppg, as well as second in offensive rebounds with 14.0 rpg. Georgetown is third in turnover margin holding a +5.21 advantage and also third in rebounding margin, outrebounding opponents by 0.4 rpg.

The Wildcats (12-2, 2-2 BIG EAST) tallied a 75-57 home win over the Xavier University Musketeers on Friday. Sophomore guard Kelly Jekot scored 21 points to lead the way. She is currently averaging 11.5 ppg to rank second on the squad. Junior guard Adrianna Hahn leads the team with 12.4 ppg. The Wildcats were a perfect 10-0 in nonconference play and have been receiving votes in both national polls all season. The squad has been ranked as high as No. 18 in both polls.

Georgetown is 21-40 all-time against the Wildcats, and 13-14 at home. Last year, the Hoyas held on to down Villanova, 54-49, at McDonough Arena. Two Hoyas scored in double figures as White led the way with 21 points and three steals going a perfect 9-of-9 from the line. Forward Faith Woodard added 12 points and seven rebounds as well as five blocks in the contest.

Wednesday closes out GU's three-game homestand. The squad will travel to St. John's and Seton Hall this weekend.
