Georgetown Men’s Rowing Opens Fall Season at Navy Day Regatta

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing team begins its fall season as it competes in the Navy Day Regatta this weekend in Philadelphia. The Hoyas will send two collegiate 8+, two collegiate 4+, a novice 8+, two JV 8+ boats, a lightweight 8+ and a lightweight 4+ to race on Saturday.

Heavyweight
The Georgetown heavyweights first hit the water on Saturday at 9:46 a.m. in the men's collegiate 4+ race with a pair of boats comprised of both newcomers and veterans. In the Entry A boat, Maxim Goohs (Potomac, Md.) will serve as the coxswain. The foursome of William Cave (Dallas, Texas), Justin English (Bettendorf, Iowa), Clemente Borgogni (Rye, N.Y.) and Owen O'Brien Powers (Portland, Ore.) will compete against 31 other crews. Collegiate competitors include Marist, Lafayette, St. Joseph's, Temple, Army and Navy.

Later on, the Hoyas return to the water at 10:22 a.m. for the men's collegiate Novice 8+ race featuring 13 other schools from all around the East Coast. Following the novice race will be the men's collegiate JV 8+ event at 10:54 a.m. where the Blue & Gray will send two boats to compete against the likes of Drexel, Delaware and Penn to name a few.

Wrapping up the day for the heavyweights will be the men's collegiate 8+ race at 12:30 p.m. where the Hoyas will send another pair of boats. In the Entry A boat, Goohs will cox once again, with the eight featuring William Cave (Dallas, Texas), Justin English (Bettendorf, Iowa), Emmett Orts (Philadelphia, Pa.), Ian Estevao (Arlington, Va.), Daniel Eigler-Harding (Arlington, Va.), Luke Nassif (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.), Clemente Borgogni (Rye, N.Y.) and Owen O'Brien Powers (Portland, Ore.). The men will go up against 25 other crews from Lehigh, Marist, Rutgers, Temple and Navy.

Lightweight
The Georgetown lightweight crews see their first action at 9:58 a.m. as they take on boats from Navy, Temple and Penn. The Hoyas are sending one boat featuring Ryan Zuccala (Orchard Park, N.Y.) as the coxswain with Hector Formoso-Murias (Key Biscayne, Fla.), Liam Lafferty (Orinda, Calif.), Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I.) and Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y.) as the foursome.

The last event of the day for the Blue & Gray will be the lightweight 8+ event at 12:52 p.m. With Hannah Elwell (Worcester, Mass.) at coxswain, Charles Koontz (Ridgewood, N.J.), Peter Luca DiGiovanni (Milton, Mass.), Jonathan Menendez (Miami Lakes, Fla.), Joseph Cecil (Alpharetta, Ga.), Reid Noch (Naples, Fla.), Liam Lafferty (Orinda, Calif.), Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I.) and Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y.) battle a field of 13 other crews including collegiate foes Temple, Delaware, Penn and Navy.

"Navy Day will be a great chance to give the group opportunities to perform," said Head Coach Luke Agnini. "We were disappointed the Head of the Potomac was canceled last month, and I know the team was looking forward to racing. We have a lot of talented newcomers and I know they are eager to prove themselves. The upperclassmen are looking to capitalize on the fitness they gained through the summer and so far into the season. A big focus for ours this season is giving people opportunities to perform. With each guy racing twice on Saturday, we are looking to get a lot of useful data from this weekend."

Following Saturday's race in Philadelphia, the Hoyas return to the water on October 21 for the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
