Sailing Places Fourth in Women’s Showcase Final

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend. The Hoyas competed in the two fleets of the St. Mary's Oyster Bowl in St. Mary's City, Maryland and in the Women's Showcase Final in Boston, Massachusetts, where GU took fourth overall, its best finish of the weekend.
 
Oyster Bowl Fleet 1 (Oct. 13; St. Mary's, Md.)
The Blue & Gray had a boat in each division of the two fleets of the St. Mary's Oyster Bowl. Each of the fleets had nine teams competing in the combined divisions. The Oyster Bowl featured puffy and shifty winds on the first day, which resulted in tight racing. Georgetown finished seventh on Saturday with a combined score of 216 points.

Oyster Bowl Fleet 2 (Oct. 14; St. Mary's, Md.)
On Sunday's races in the St. Mary's Oyster Bowl, the breeze never filled and the regatta was called at 1 p.m. However, the Hoyas finished seventh overall in a field of nine teams with a combined score of 200 points.

Women's Showcase Final (Oct. 13-14; Boston, Mass.)
Georgetown took fourth overall among 18 teams at the Women's Showcase Finals in Providence, Rhode Island. Featuring 18 of the top teams in the country, the Hoyas more than held their own and were consistent throughout the weekend, placing second in the B Division and 10th in the A Division.
 
In the B Division, the duo of Morgan Sailer (Annapolis, Md. / St. George's) and Hannah Hess (Inverness, Ill. / Loyola Academy) finished 16 out of the 18 races among the top 10, nine of which were among the top five. The A Division had six placements among the top six out of 18 boats. The Blue & Gray finished with a combined score of 269 points.

The Blue & Gray will be back on the water next weekend, Oct. 20-21, for two regattas. The Hoyas will be in St. Mary's City, Maryland for the Coed Showcase and in Ithaca, New York for the MAISA Women's Championship.
