Hoyas Finish Third at Windy Lady Blue Hen Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team closed out its fall schedule with a third-place finish at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware. Playing at the Rehobeth Beach Country Club, the Hoyas carded a season-best 291 in Saturday's first round before posting a 297 in the afternoon. Battling windy conditions on Sunday, GU turned in a 311, the second-best score of the day, to finish at 47-over par 899.

Seton Hall won the tournament with a three-round score of 890 and the host Blue Hens were six strokes ahead of the Hoyas at 893. Georgetown finished eight shots ahead of Penn (907) and High Point (908) rounded out the top five.

Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) was GU's top finisher, carding an 8-over par 221 to finish third, just five strokes out of first place. She turned in a season-best round of 70 over the first 18 holes on Saturday before posting rounds of 73 and 78.

Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) finished in a tie for 15th with a 13-over par 226. After rounds of 75 and 76 to start the tournament, she turned in one of the best rounds in Monday's tough conditions, posting a 75 to climb 16 spots in the rankings.

Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C. / Episcopal [Va.]) was right behind Parsells, carding a 15-over par 228 to tie for 19th overall. Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake Senior) was among the top 10 after Saturday's two rounds with scores of even-par 71 and 75. However, an 84 on Sunday dropped her into a tie for 25th at 17-over par 230.

Kate Evanko (West Chester, Pa. / Unionville) shot an 81 over the first 18 holes on Saturday before withdrawing from the second round because of illness. She came back to post a 78 and tie for second on the team on Sunday.
