Hoyas Finish Third at Fiske-Harriman-Sleigh Trophy Showcase

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend. The Hoyas finished third at the Fiske-Harriman-Sleigh Trophy Coed Showcase in St. Mary's City, Maryland. and were also in action at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Fall Women's Championship in Ithaca, New York.
 
Fiske-Harriman-Sleigh Trophy Showcase (Oct. 20-21; St. Mary's, Md.)
In St. Mary's City, Maryland, the Blue & Gray finished third at the inaugural Fiske-Harriman-Sleigh Trophy Showcase. On Saturday, 10 races were sailed in each division in a constantly shifting 5-8 knot breeze. The final eight races in each division were competed on Sunday in 15-20 knot winds. Georgetown compiled 286 points on the weekend, beating Hobart and William Smith by two points.
 
The trio of William Logue (Greenwich, Conn. / St. George's), Caroline Teare (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands / Antilles School) and Andy Reiter (Point Loma, Calif. / Point Loma) were third in the B Division with 136 points, winning the 12th and 13th races. Sean Segerblom (Newport Beach, Calif. / Newport Harbor), Rebecca Fung (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) and Teare represented GU in the A Division. They tied for seventh with MIT, finishing with 150 points.

MAISA Women's Championship (Oct. 20-21; Ithaca, N.Y.)
On Cayuga Lake, the Hoyas finished the weekend in eighth place with 121 points, one short behind Old Dominion. Racing was tight on Sunday, as GU and the Monarchs were neck-and-neck in the final three races.
 
Carly Broussard (Newport, R.I. / Kentucky Country Day), Olivia van den Born (Greenwich, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) and Hannah Hess (Inverness, Ill. / Loyola Academy) sailed in the A Division for the Blue & Gray. They finished fifth with 59 points and crossed the line in the top five in six out of 10 races. Macey McCann (Houston, Texas / Episcopal), Marley Mais (Newport Beach, Calif. / Newport Harbor), Gwynie Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) and Celine Bennett (San Anselmo, Calif. / Marin Academy) sailed in the B Division, finishing eighth with 62 points.

The Blue & Gray will be back on the water next weekend, Oct. 27-28, for the War Memorial Regatta, hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Maryland.
