WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team plays its final road game of the season when it travels to Hamilton, New York to take on No. 11/16 Colgate in a matchup of the final two unbeaten teams in the Patriot League. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Colgate's Andy Kerr Stadium. Links to live stats and a video stream, via the Patriot League Network, will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas (4-4, 3-0 Patriot League) are coming off of their third-straight win, defeating Lehigh 22-16 in double overtime last Saturday. It was GU's first overtime game since 2010, and Georgetown's first overtime victory since 2005. Saturday was also Georgetown's first win over Lehigh since 1925, as the Mountain Hawks had won the first 17 meetings since Georgetown joined the Patriot League in 2001.
Jackson Saffold (Orlando, Fla. / Timber Creek) ran for a pair of touchdowns in overtime, his first two career scores, and finished with a team-high 50 rushing yards.
Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) completed 16 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown, while
Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass / Williston Northampton) caught three passes for 120 yards, including a 70-yard score.
Wes Bowers (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) led the defense with 11 tackles and the Hoyas had two more interceptions, one each by
Cameron Deen (Fort Washington, Md. / Oxon Hill) and
Jethro Francois (Winter Haven, Fla. / Victory Christian Academy), to give them a nation-leading 15 interceptions on the season.
Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga. / Covenant Academy) added a pair of sacks to give him a league-leading 7.5 on the season.
Tate was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and Saffold earned honorable mention honors.
Saturday will be the 16th all-time meeting between the Hoyas and Raiders. Georgetown is 1-14 all-time against Colgate, and the Raiders have won each of the past six meetings, with Georgetown's last victory coming in 2011, a 40-17 win on the Hilltop. Last year, the Hoyas closed out the season with a 35-10 loss to Colgate at Cooper Field. Tate had nine tackles and intercepted the first play from scrimmage, his first career interception, and returned it 29 yards for the touchdown to give the Blue & Gray a 7-0 lead just nine seconds into the game.
Colgate (6-0, 3-0 Patriot League) enters Saturday's game on an 11-game winning streak, the second-longest active streak in the country. The Raiders, who had a bye week last Saturday, boast the nation's best defense, allowing just 3.8 points per game and have not allowed a touchdown since their season opener. Colgate also leads the Patriot League in offense with an average of 26.7 ppg and 343.7 yards per game. James Holland tops the conference with 83.8 rushing yards per game and six rushing touchdowns.
After Saturday's game, the Hoyas will enjoy their bye week before closing out the regular season with a pair of home games, hosting Bucknell on Nov. 10 and Holy Cross on Nov. 17. Both games will kick off at 12:30 p.m.
