Georgetown Men’s Rowing Continues Fall Season at Princeton Chase

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing team is set for its third race of the fall season as it heads up to Princeton, New Jersey for the Princeton Chase on Sunday. The Hoyas will send a varsity lightweight 8+, a lightweight frosh 8+, a heavyweight frosh 8+, and three lightweight 4+ boats to race on Lake Carnegie.

Lightweight
The Georgetown lightweight crews first hit the water at 10 a.m. for the men's lightweight 8+ race as they take on boats from Cornell, Dartmouth, Navy, Princeton, Delaware and Penn. The Hoyas are sending one boat featuring Hannah Elwell (Worcester, Mass.) as the coxswain with Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I.), Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y.), Joe Cecil (Alpharetta, Ga.), Kiefer Mueller (Rye, N.Y.), Reid Noch (Naples, Fla.), Jonathan Menendez (Miami Lakes, Fla.), Hector Formoso-Murias (Key Biscayne, Fla.) and Liam Lafferty (Orinda, Calif.) to round out the eight.

The next event of the day for the Blue & Gray will be the lightweight freshmen 8+ event at 12:15 p.m. With Helena Yang (New York, N.Y.) at coxswain, John Dailey (Rye, N.Y.), Ryan Walter (Williamsville, N.Y.), Mark Laforce (Redwood City, Calif.), Austin Sammons (Rye, N.Y.), Andrew Peck (Toronto, Ont.), Santo Scarfone (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), Tim Rudolph-Math (Rye, N.Y.) and Ryan Young (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) battle a field of 10 other crews including collegiate foes Navy, Princeton and Delaware.

The final event of the day will feature a trio of Georgetown boats in the men's lightweight 4+ event at 1 p.m. In the A boat, Ryan Zuccala (Orchard Park, N.Y.) is at the helm with Artym Hayda at stroke, Olivier Malle, Liam Lafferty, and Hector Formoso-Murias to complete the foursome. This crew is coming fresh off a first-place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston a week ago. The Hoyas will have two other entries in the race to compete against Cornell, Dartmouth, Navy and Princeton, among others.

Heavyweight
The Georgetown heavyweights see their only action of the day at 12:15 p.m. in the men's freshmen heavyweight 8+ race. In the boat, Anna Pogrebivsky (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.) will serve as the coxswain, with Justin English (Bettendorf, Iowa) at stroke, Jack Mozingo (Darien, Conn.), Owen O'Brien Powers (Portland, Ore.), Jeremy Wolpert (Newport Beach, Calif.), Kyle Harrison (Phoenix, N.Y.), William Cave (Dallas, Texas), Thomas Kolnik (Sewell, N.J.) and Max Keating (Chestnut Hill, Mass.). The Blue & Gray will compete against seven other collegiate crews, including boats from Princeton, George Washington, Dartmouth and Cal.

"The Princeton Chase will be a great opportunity for our Freshmen to race as a unit against a number of other Freshmen crews," said Head Coach Luke Agnini. "Coach Vlahos has done a great job getting that group unified this week and we have done a good amount of work getting them race ready for Sunday. There has been so much growth on a weekly basis and I know they have enjoyed training as a Freshman group this week. It's a great group that's very hard working and very low maintenance. That entire squad has solidified our decision to recruit them in the first place and they embody the characteristics we value in our program. It will be fun to see them get juiced up and get after it on Sunday."

Following Sunday's race in Princeton, the Hoyas will close out their fall season in Sandy Run, Virginia on October 21 at the Head of the Occoquan.
