Hoyas Open Patriot League Play at Fordham

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team opens its 18th season in the Patriot League when it travels to the Bronx, New York to play Fordham University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff at Jack Coffey Field is set for 1 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed live simultaneously on Stadium and Facebook Watch, with Matt Martucci and Ross Tucker on the call and Morgan Uber reporting from the sideline. The Hoyas (1-4) dropped their fourth-consecutive game last weekend, falling at Brown in the team's third-straight game against an Ivy League opponent. Georgetown rushed for 248 yards, its most in a game since 2014, but dropped its final nonconference game, 35-7. Jackson Saffold (Orlando, Fla. / Timber Creek) led the rushing attack with a career-high 82 yards on 16 carries, while Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) ran 11 times for 60 yards.. Joshua Tomas (University Park, Ill. / Crete-Monee) totaled 127 all-purpose yards, including 57 yards on the ground, 67 kick return yards and three receiving yards.
 
Saturday will be the 63rd meeting between the long-time rivals, dating back to a 6-6 tie in 1890. Fordham holds the all-time series advantage, 37-22-3, having won the past six matchups. The last two meetings have been one-score contests, with the Hoyas falling, 17-14, their last time in the Bronx in 2016. Last season, the Rams came away with a 17-9 win at Cooper Field.
 
In last year's matchup, Johnson finished 17-of-35 for 196 yards passing with a touchdown. Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass. / Williston Northampton) caught four passes for 83 yards, while Brandon Williams (Germanton, Md. / Northwest) hauled in a team-high five catches for 46 yards. Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga. / Covenant Academy) was among the defensive leaders with eight tackles and 1.5 sacks, while Brad Hurst (Helen, Ga. / White County) averaged 44.2 yards on 10 punts and connected on his only field goal attempt.
 
Fordham (0-4) is coming off its bye weekend, looking for its first win of the season. The Rams opened the season with road losses to Charlotte (34-10) and Richmond (52-7) before suffering home setbacks to Stony Brook (28-6) and Central Connecticut State (24-13). Fordham's offense has totaled just 53 rushing yards on the season, while the passing game is averaging 230.2 yards per game. The Rams have allowed 16 sacks through their first four games. The defense is allowing 34.5 points per game and over 200 yards both on the ground and through the air.
 
Following this weekend's contest, the Hoyas will complete a three-game road swing as they travel to Easton, Pennsylvania to play Lafayette. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
