WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds in a 7 p.m. matchup on Tuesday evening at McDonough Arena. Georgetown has opened the season 2-0 with a pair of victories last week. Additionally, on Monday, graduate student
Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in the league's first set of awards for the 2018-19 season.
Seeing her first game action since 2016-17, Adomako led Georgetown to a 2-0 week by averaging 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists. In the 73-53 victory at Richmond, Adomako managed 14 points along with three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. In the 74-55 win in the home opener against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, she led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double as well as an assist and a steal. This is the ninth nod to the honor roll of Adomako's career.
The Hoyas have three players averaging in double figures as Adomako leads the way with 16.0 ppg. Graduate student
Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) is second with 14.0 ppg, while freshman
Nikola Kovacikova (Levice, Slovakia / UKF Nitra) rounds out the top three with 11.5 ppg. Senior
Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) and junior
Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) have both pulled down 14 boards this year, and Venson is leading with nine assists. The squad currently holds an +11.0 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +2.0 margin on turnovers.
The Greyhounds, in the midst of a three-game season-opening road swing, are looking for their first win of the 2018-19 campaign after losing to George Mason (70-38) and Dartmouth (54-41). The Greyhounds return all five starters from the 2017-18 campaign and also get graduate student Bri Betz-White, a first-team All-Patriot League performer in 2016-17, back after a season-ending injury held her out of last year. Isabella Therien was the 2017-18 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, and junior Stephanie Karcz was the 2017-18 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-league honoree as the squad looks to build off of success from a year ago.
Georgetown is 11-3 all-time against Loyola and 6-1 in games recorded at home. GU has won the past nine meetings dating back to 1980. Last year, the Blue & Gray picked up the 72-54 victory in Baltimore as White led the team with 23 points, and Venson added 20. They both had seven rebounds. The last meeting at McDonough Arena was a 71-44 GU victory during the 2014-15 season where Adomako led the team with 13 points and 10 rebounds in her rookie campaign.
