WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team closes out the 2018 season on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross in a Patriot League matchup at Cooper Field. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. and the game can be watched on the Patriot League Network and Facebook Watch. Links to the video stream and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The contest against Holy Cross is currently sold out. Visit WeAreGeorgetown.com/football closer to game day for updates on whether additional tickets will be made available on Saturday at Cooper Field.
A win for the Hoyas on Saturday will clinch an outright second-place finish in the Patriot League, while a victory for Holy Cross would mean the Hoyas and Crusaders tie for second. A Georgetown win would clinch a 6-5 record, GU's first winning season since 2011 and just the second since 1999.
The Hoyas (5-5, 4-1 Patriot League) are coming off a 14-3 victory over Bucknell last weekend, clinching the program's most wins in the Patriot League since joining the conference in 2001. The Hoyas recorded a season-high seven sacks and only allowed 13 rushing yards in the win.
Freshman
Herman Moultrie III (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) rushed for a career-high 135 yards on 22 carries, while also receiving one pass for 22 yards and a touchdown. It was Moultrie's first career 100-yard rushing game and his first career receiving score.
Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) finished 8-of-15 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown, and also rushed eight times for 30 yards. Moultrie was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second time this season, and the third for the Hoyas.
Wes Bowers (Fort Washington, Md. / Bishop McNamara) led the defense with 11 tackles and a sack.
Xavier Reddick (Powder Springs, Ga. / McEachern) loaded the stat sheet with seven tackles, a sack, 2.0 tackles-for-loss (TFL), an interception and a forced fumble.
Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga. / Covenant Academy) had two sacks to give him a team-leading 9.5 on the season and finished with 4.0 TFL. Reddick earned his first career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor, and the fourth for GU on the season.
Georgetown and Holy Cross are meeting for the 31st time, with the Crusaders holding a 19-11 all-time series advantage. The Hoyas have dropped the last three matchups after winning back-to-back contests in 2013 and 2014. Last season, GU trailed by just three entering the fourth quarter, but ultimately fell 24-10 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Johnson passed for 181 yards and a touchdown in last year's matchup.
Max Edwards (Germantown, Md./Georgetown Prep) finished with five catches for a team-high 84 yards and
Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) hauled in seven catches for 75 yards. Wesley Bowers (Fort Washington, Md./Bishop McNamara) finished with a career-high nine tackles, tying with
Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine/Loomis Chaffee) for the second most on the team.
The Crusaders (4-6, 3-2 Patriot League) enter Saturday's contest on a three-game winning streak with decisive wins over Lehigh (56-0) and Lafayette (40-14) before defeating Fordham (17-13) last week. Holy Cross ranks second in the Patriot League in scoring offense (23.6 ppg) and total offense (338.3 ypg), while quarterback Geoff Wade leads the conference with 15 passing touchdowns. Dominic Cozier is third in rushing yards (642) and second in rushing touchdowns (8). The defense is led by Ryan Brady who is atop the conference with 105 total tackles.
