Symone Speech, Alyssa Sinnette Named All-BIG EAST

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University volleyball seniors Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) and Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas / Dawson) were named All-BIG EAST, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Speech was a unanimous selection on the first team while Sinnette garnered second team accolades.

The pair is the first Hoya duo to earn multiple All-BIG EAST nods since the 2002 campaign.

Speech earns her third All-BIG EAST selection after garnering second team honors in 2016 and first team recognition in 2017 and 2018. She averaged 2.93 kills per set while hitting at a .325 clip. Defensively, she averaged 1.03 blocks per set and collected 60 digs as a middle blocker. Speech tallied double-digit kills in 18 matches, including a season-high 15 kills on three separate occasions. She also posted a double-double with 14 kills and 10 blocks in a five-set victory over St. John's.

A mainstay on the conference weekly honor list, Speech was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18 and the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9. Additionally, she was twice selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and is the only player in the league to have been chosen to collect all three honors this season. During the regular season, she was also named to the all-tournament teams at the Georgia Tech Hyatt Regency Invitational, the Georgetown Classic and the GU/GW Dig The District Invitational.

Sinnette led the Hoyas with 3.29 kills per set on the season and added 1.60 digs per set. She added 23 blocks and 18 service aces to go with six double-doubles on the year. She also tallied 18 double-digit kill matches with a season-high 20 coming in a BIG EAST win at Providence. Her 18 kills at a .577 clip in a win against DePaul was a career best for the outside hitter, as were her six blocks against St. John's.

No stranger to weekly accolades, Sinnette was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times this season. She earned the recognition on Oct. 9, Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and Nov. 20.

Georgetown closed out the 2018 season with a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Xavier and Butler. The Hoyas finished the season 17-13 overall and 10-8 in BIG EAST play to tie for fourth place. Georgetown's 17 wins are the most since 2004 and the 10 conference wins are the most since 2001.
