WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Fordham University Rams in a 7 p.m. matchup on Thursday evening at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 4-3 on the season as they return home following a two-game road trip.
Georgetown went 0-2 last week at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout falling to the University at Buffalo 73-64 on Friday and then-No. 4/5 Baylor University 67-46 on Saturday. Graduate student
Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) led the team over the two games averaging 12.5 ppg, while senior
Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) averaged a double-double with 11.0 ppg and 12.5 rpg. White is currently tied for the BIG EAST lead with three double-doubles this season.
Georgetown has three players averaging double digits as Venson and White lead the team with 13.4 and 13.1 ppg, respectively. Graduate student
Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) is third with 11.0 ppg. White is averaging 9.3 rpg to lead the squad as well as the BIG EAST, and Adomako is second with 6.3 rpg. Venson has a team-best 24 assists on the season and junior forward
Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) has 12 blocks to her credit.
The squad currently holds a +3.6 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +1.0 margin in turnovers.
Fordham is 4-3 on the season and reached the Gulf Coast Showcase final after a come-from-behind win against Ball State and a win over Washington. The Rams fell to then-No. 10/9 Texas 72-54 in the championship game. Bre Cavanaugh was named to the All-Tournament team and earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors for averaging 22.3 points per game during the tournament. Cavanaugh is leading the team in scoring with 19.4 ppg, she is one of four Rams in double figures.
The Hoyas are 5-4 all-time against Fordham and 3-1 at home in known locations. The last meeting at McDonough was during the 2017 Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) when the Rams downed the Hoyas 60-49 after a hot shooting second half. The last meeting during the regular season was a 58-46 Georgetown win in 2008.
