Georgetown Hosts VCU on Sunday at McDonough Arena

WASHINGTON –  The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams in a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 5-3 on the season with just two home games remaining in nonconference play. 
 
The Hoyas had a big 58-38 victory over the Fordham University Rams on Thursday evening.  The solid defense held Fordham to just 10 second-half points as the Blue & Gray cruised to victory.  Three Hoyas scored in double figures as senior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) led the way with 15 points and six rebounds.  Graduate student Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) posted her double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, while graduate student Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) added 12 points and a pair of steals.  Junior forward Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) managed four blocks to go along with six points and four boards.
 
Georgetown outrebounded Fordham 40-34 on the glass. GU shot 39.6 percent (21 for 53) from the field as well as 68.8 percent (11 for 16) from the charity stripe.  The defense forced the Rams into 26.4 percent (14 of 53) shooting in the contest. The Blue & Gray forced 13 turnovers from Fordham with six steals in the game. 
 
Georgetown has three players averaging double digits as White and Venson lead the team with 13.4 and 13.3 ppg, respectively.  Adomako is third with 11.3 ppg.  White is averaging 8.9 rpg to lead the squad, and Adomako is second with 6.9 rpg.  Venson has a team-best 25 assists on the season, and White has 23.  Kelava has 16 blocks to her credit to lead the league.
 
The squad currently holds a +3.9 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +1.2 margin in turnovers.
 
VCU is coming off of a 58-47 victory over UNC Wilmington Wednesday evening.  Taya Robinson was one of three Rams in double figures as she scored 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting. She also added seven rebounds and two assists.  With the win the Rams moved to 5-2 overall winning three of their last four beginning with a 53-40 victory over Wake Forest on November 18. 
 
The Hoyas are 5-1 all-time against the Rams and 2-0 at home.  Last year, Georgetown defeated VCU 71-59 on the road.  White led the way with 21 points, four rebounds and five steals. Cynthia Petke (C'18) adding 10 points and 12 boards for the double-double. Georgetown was outrebounded by the Rams, 42-28, but shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) in the contest. VCU hit 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the field and committed 24 turnovers in the game. Georgetown managed 16 steals and hit seven 3-pointers.
