Fitzpatrick, Bartelsmeyer and Eleey Receive 2017-18 Awards

WASHINGTON –  Three former Georgetown University student-athletes will be honored with awards from the 2017-18 school year on Saturday during the men's basketball game against Southern Methodist University at Capital One Arena.  The three honorees will be recognized for accomplishments from last year as well as career accolades.
 
Robert A. Duffey Scholar-Athlete Award
Molly Fitzpatrick, Swimming & Diving
Given to a Georgetown student-athlete who best embodies academic and athletic excellence is selected each year to receive the Duffey award since its inception in 1955.
Fitzpatrick graduated in May as one of Georgetown's most decorated swimmers, earning 15 All-BIG EAST honors and winning seven individual titles. She won the BIG EAST title in the 200-yard breaststroke all four years, and claimed the 100-yard breaststroke three times.
 
The Manchester, New Hampshire native became the first Hoya in program history to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials when she made the cut in the 200 breaststroke. Out of the pool, Fitzpatrick graduated with a human science degree from the School of Nursing & Health Studies and was a four-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. She earned the BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarship last spring.
 
2017-18 Outstanding Female Athlete
Jacquelyn Eleey, Women's Golf
Eleey capped off a tremendous career by being named the BIG EAST Player of the Year after winning the 2018 BIG EAST Championship in April. Eleey, who earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors after winning the 2015 BIG EAST Championship, became the first women's golfer in BIG EAST history to win two individual conference titles. As a senior, she played in all 33 rounds and compiled a 74.85 stroke average, becoming the first player in program history to break 75. She also set the record for career stroke average, recording a 75.34 over 116 rounds in her four years.
 
The Quincy, Massachusetts native won three tournaments as a senior, bringing her career total to five, as she led the Hoyas to their second-straight BIG EAST title. Eleey, who was a member of the 2016 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, graduated in May from Georgetown College with a degree in sociology.
 
2017-18 Outstanding Male Athlete
Amos Bartelsmeyer, Cross Country/Track & Field
All-American Amos Bartelsmeyer had a strong start to the 2017-18 campaign as he earned All-BIG EAST honors and helped the Blue & Gray to its third-consecutive BIG EAST men's cross country team title. He went on to win the BIG EAST men's indoor mile at the indoor championships and competed at the NCAA championships, earning a pair of All-America honors.
 
Transitioning to the outdoor season, Bartelsmeyer won the BIG EAST 800-meter title and advanced to the 1,500-meter finals at the NCAA Championships, again earning All-America accolades. He closed his career as a seven-time All-American and a seven-time BIG EAST champion.
