Georgetown Athletics Celebrates 2025 Commencement

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University recognized its graduating seniors with events over the past few days as more than 200 student-athletes were honored earning bachelor's and master's degrees.  Two Hoya student-athletes received athletics related awards from their individual colleges during the festivities. On Monday, members of the baseball, men's lacrosse, men's rowing, women's rowing and track & field teams participated in a private ceremony after missing graduation while competing.
 
Genevieve Youngman – Women's Swimming & Diving
Stephanie Waterman Medal
Walsh School of Foreign Service
The Stephanie Waterman Medal is named in memory of a student in the School of Foreign Service who was captain of the varsity tennis team and who died in Senegal in 1985. The medal is awarded to the outstanding scholar-athlete of the graduating class.
  • Earned All-BIG EAST honors for her performance in the 100 fly and 200 medley relay at the 2025 BIG EAST Championship.
  • At the 2025 BIG EAST Championship, Youngman captured second in the 100 fly with a time of 53.49.
  • Finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (54.16) at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship.
  • In 2024, earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 400 medley relay.
  • Named Second Team Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in June 2022
  • Placed second in the 200 IM relay (1:41.13) with Alex Breuer, Maddie Haley, and Bella Wylie at the 2023 BIG EAST Championship.
  • Earned bronze in the 200 free relay (1:33.71) with Bella Wylie, Ines Lovato, and Allie Sanchez at the 2023 BIG EAST Championship.
  • Earned All-BIG EAST honors for her performance in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay at the 2023 BIG EAST Championship.
  • A global business major.

Thomas Francis Graham Award
Georgetown College
The Thomas Francis Graham Award was founded by the Graham Family in memory of their father Thomas Francis Graham (C'1949). The honor of this award is bestowed upon a graduating senior of the College who has demonstrated throughout his or her college career concern for others, academic achievement, sportsmanship as a member of an intercollegiate team and dedication to the educational and spiritual goals of Georgetown University.
  • Earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST team for three-consecutive seasons. This year, the catcher was named to  the first team.
  • The senior slashed .325/.415/.663 in conference play and tallied 26 hits, six doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBIs and eight walks.
  • On the season, Carapellotti played in 51 games hitting .298 with 57 hits. The Canton, Michigan native boasted a .406 on base percentage and a .586 slugging percentage while hitting 11 doubles, one triple and 14 home runs.
  • Carapellotti tallied 48 RBIs and was third on the team in walks (29) and hit by pitches (7).
  • The senior will leave Georgetown as one of the most decorated Hoyas of all-time. Carapelloti ranks tied for first in games played (211), first in games started (208), first in home runs (52), first in at bats (790) and first in hit by pitches (39). He ranks fourth in runs scored (169), third in hits (228), tied for seventh in doubles (48), second in RBIs (183), second in total bases (446), sixth in slugging percentage (.567) and fourth in walks (118).2023 & 2024 All-BIG EAST Second Team Selection
  • He helped lead the 2024 team to the first BIG EAST Championship game appearance in school history and was part of the 2023 squad that won the first BIG EAST Championships game in school history.
  • A computer science major.
The awards were distributed at Tropaia Ceremonies held by the individual school over the weekend. The word Tropaia, meaning trophy, is ancient Greek and referred to a monument constructed to celebrate a military victory.
 
The Class of 2025 enjoyed enormous athletic successes, appearing in a combined 42 NCAA Tournaments and bringing in more than 50 BIG EAST Team and Individual Championships home to the Hilltop. Competing in both the BIG EAST Conference and the Patriot League, this year's senior class combined to garner more than 100 postseason all-league awards as well as being the recipients of at least 200 academic all-league honors.
