Hoyas Close Out Nonconference Play at Rider

WASHINGTON –  The Georgetown University women's basketball team will close out nonconference play on Friday evening traveling to Rider University for a 7 p.m. matchup at Alumni Gymnasium.  The Hoyas are currently 5-5 on the season and coming off of a weeklong break for final exams.
 
In Georgetown's last game, the Blue & Gray dropped a 76-65 decision to the No. 10/10 NC State Wolfpack on Saturday, December 8 at McDonough Arena.  Three Hoyas scored in double figures as senior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) led all scorers with a season-high 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals.  Graduate student Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) managed 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds as well as four blocks.  Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) rounded out those in double figures with 16 points.  
 
The Hoyas were outrebounded by the Wolfpack 49-28 on the glass. GU shot 36.8 percent (25 for 68) from the field.  The defense allowed NC State 45.8 percent (27 of 59) shooting in the contest and the Blue & Gray forced 18 turnovers from the Wolfpack with seven steals in the game.
 
Following the NC State game, White was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.  It was the third weekly honor for the Hoyas this season, the second for White and the ninth nod of her career.
 
GU has three players averaging double digits as White and Venson lead the team with 14.6 and 12.8 ppg, respectively.  Adomako is third with 12.3 ppg.  White is averaging 8.3 rpg to lead the squad and Adomako is second with 7.2 rpg.  Venson has a team-best 31 assists on the season and White has 26.  Junior Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) has 20 blocks to her credit to lead the league.
 
The squad currently holds a +1.3 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +1.7 margin in turnovers.
 
The Broncs are 4-6 on the season with Georgetown scheduled as their final nonconference contest of the season.  This mark includes a 2-2 record at home.  Rider's most recent contest was an 80-59 loss at Bucknell on Saturday.  The previous weekend, the Broncs defeated Binghamton 62-57 at home.  Three players are averaging in double figures as Stella Johnson leads the way with 19.5 ppg, while Amari Johnson is second averaging 10.5 ppg as well as a squad-high 6.1 rpg.
 
The Hoyas are 5-0 all-time against the Broncs with just one meeting coming in Lawrenceville, New Jersey The last contest was in 2011 at McDonough Arena as the Blue & Gray took the 58-51 victory.  The season prior, Georgetown defeated Rider on the road, 81-54, at Alumni Gymnasium.
