Georgetown Hosts No. 10/10 NC State on Saturday

WASHINGTON –  The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the No. 10/10 NC State Wolfpack in a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 5-4 on the season with two nonconference games remaining.  Saturday will be GU's final home nonconference game of the 2018-19 season.

Georgetown fell to the VCU Rams Sunday afternoon at McDonough Arena. Georgetown could not ride the momentum from a big third quarter to the end, eventually losing 47-45. Two Hoyas scored in double figures as senior guard Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) and graduate student Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) managed 14 points apiece.  Adomako pulled in nine rebounds and White added five boards and four steals.  Junior forward Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) tallied four blocks to go along with five points and a squad-high 12 rebounds.

The Hoyas outrebounded VCU 40-37 on the glass. GU shot 32.8 percent (19 for 58) from the field.  The defense forced the Rams into 33.3 percent (17 of 51) shooting in the contest and the Blue & Gray forced 15 turnovers from VCU with seven steals in the game.

GU has three players averaging double digits as White and Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) lead the team with 13.4 and 12.4 ppg, respectively.  Adomako is third with 11.6 ppg.  White is averaging 8.4 rpg to lead the squad and Adomako is second with 6.9 rpg.  Venson has a team-best 27 assists on the season and White has 24.  Kelava has 20 blocks to her credit to lead the league.

The squad currently holds a +3.8 rebounding margin over opponents as well as a +0.8 margin in turnovers.

The Wolfpack is 9-0 on the season most recently defeating Hampton 83-51 on Wednesday morning.  Kiara Leslie led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Aislinn Konig added 16 and Grace Hunter had 12.  NC State has four averaging in double figures for the season as Hunter leads the squad with 15.7 ppg and Leslie is averaging 14.2 ppg.

Georgetown is 1-2 all-time against the Wolfpack and 1-0 at home.  Last year, GU fell in North Carolina 63-49.  Cynthia Petke (C'18) led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, leading the Hoyas in both categories. Venson added 14 points. The last meeting at home was a 67-66 win in 2009.
