WASHINGTON – After a three-game homestretch for the Hoyas, the Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York to take on the Syracuse Orange on Saturday. Tipoff in the nonconference matchup is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and a link to live stats is available at GUHoyas.com.
The game will be shown live on ESPN with Dan Shulman calling the play-by-play and LaPhonso Ellis providing analysis. The game can be heard locally on WOL 1450 AM with Rich Chvotkin in his 45th season calling the game.
The Hoyas (7-1) look to continue their four-game win streak on Saturday afternoon as they take on former BIG EAST rival, Syracuse. On Monday night, the Hoyas notched their seventh win with an 88-78 victory over the visiting Liberty Flames as three players scored in double figures. Freshman
James Akinjo (Oakland, Calif. / Salesian College Preparatory) tied his career high with 19 points and senior center
Jessie Govan (Queens Village, N.Y. / Wings Academy) tallied his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman
Mac McClung (Gate City, Va. / Gate City) rounded out those in double figures with 12 points. Govan and freshman
Josh LeBlanc (Baton Rouge, La. / Madison Prep Academy) each pulled down a squad-best 10 boards while sophomore
Jamorko Pickett (Washington, D.C. / Massanutten Military Academy [Va.]) tallied a career-high five assists to pace the offense.
After the week, Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in assists per game (17.0) and blocked shots per game (4.5). LeBlanc leads the conference with a .744 field goal percentage (29 of 39), while Akinjo is tied for second in the BIG EAST with 39 assists.
Syracuse enters Saturday's game with a 6-2 record after a 72-49 victory over Northeastern, its fourth-straight victory. Oshae Brissett led the way with 21 points. Tyus Battle leads the team with 17.0 ppg, while Brissett is right behind him at 16.0 ppg and averages a team-high 8.3 rpg. Elijah Hughes rounds out those averaging double figures with 14.1 ppg.
This is the 94th matchup between the Hoyas and the Orange, with Syracuse leading the overall series 50-43. Last season, Syracuse defeated Georgetown 86-79 in an overtime battle at Capital One Arena. Govan led the Hoyas in the matchup with 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
Jagan Mosely (Marlboro, N.J. / St. Anthony) tied a career high with 20 points.
Following the matchup against Syracuse, Georgetown will return to Capital One Arena on Saturday, Dec. 15 to face off against Southern Methodist at noon.
