Feb. 20, 2018 WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University Department of Athletics honored 485 student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher at a recent men's basketball game. Honorees were brought down to the court at halftime to celebrate the outstanding achievement from the fall semester.
Georgetown boasted 485 honorees, which totals more than half of the student-athlete population on campus. Of those recognized, 233 earned accolades of First Honors, Second Honors or Dean's List and 234 managed a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the semester. There were 16 who achieved a perfect 4.0 among the honorees. In total, 25 squads had a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"We take great pride in what our student-athletes do both athletically and academically," said Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed. "Our student-athletes work incredibly hard to achieve in the classroom and those efforts should not go unnoticed. We are proud of how they represent Georgetown on a daily basis."
Academics are a key component to the student-athlete experience on the Hilltop. Last year, GU placed 387 student-athletes from the 22 different BIG EAST-sponsored sports on the 2016-17 BIG EAST All-Academic Team to lead the league.
