WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated Rhode Island on Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C., 4-0. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 2-9 on the season.
GU earned the doubles point as senior Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont/University of San Diego) and junior Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School) dominated Ariel Haber and Halah Davis, 6-2. Rhode Island defaulted at no. 3 in doubles.
In singles, junior Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) defeated Michaela Codreanu,6-2, 6-3. Senior Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School/Wake Forest University) knocked off Haber, 6-3, 6-1. Additionally, senior Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) swept Paige Alshon, 6-0, 6-2. The two remaining singles matches went unfinished.
The Hoyas will be back in action on Saturday to take on Navy in Annapolis, Maryland. The match is set for 11 a.m.
