WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated Richmond on the road Wednesday afternoon, 4-1. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 3-10.
The Blue & Gray earned the doubles point, winning two out of three sets. Junior Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) and senior Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) knocked off Kiana Marshall and Lyndell Giffenig, 6-3. Additionally, senior Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School/Wake Forest University) and junior Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School) defeated Lea Owens and Adrienne Haynes, 6-2.
In singles, senior Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont/University of San Francisco) dominated Owens, 6-4, 6-0. Marx played three sets against Gaby Rosales and won the battle, 6-3, 3-6, 5-4. Goodson won her singles match against Giffenig, 6-1, 6-1 and senior Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) clinched the victory for Georgetown, defeating Ana Ramirez, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
GU will return to action on Friday, April 6 at George Washington. The match is set for 3 p.m.
