WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team dominated local foe George Mason on Thursday, 7-0. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-11 on the season.
The Blue & Gray earned the doubles point, winning two out of three sets. Junior Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md./Holton Arms School) and senior Drew Spinosa (Claremont, Calif./Claremont/University of San Diego) dominated Hannah Yang and Hannah Cianciola at the No. 2 position, 6-0. Additionally, senior Sara Swift (Vail, Colo./Saint Edward's School/Wake Forest University) and junior Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va./Langley High School) knocked of Nicole Haigwood and Kayleigh Hahn, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, the Hoyas earned all six possible points. At the No. 1 spot, junior Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) defeated Sydney Green, 7-5, 6-4. Swift won another match against Brianna Gibbs, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. Spinosa and Yang met again at No. 3, where Spinosa knocked of Yang for the second time, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Daphne de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) swept Christine McCarthy, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 4. Additionally, senior Casey Marx (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) won her battle against Hahn, 6-0, 7-6 (4) at No. 5 and Goodson defeated Cianciola, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.
GU will return to action on Saturday for its final game of the regular season. The Blue & Gray will take on Villanova in a BIG EAST matchup scheduled for 10 a.m.
