April 27, 2018 WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior Sam Madsen (Madison, Wis./Edgewood/Cardinal Gibbons [Fla.]) was named All-BIG EAST Second Team, as announced by the league office on Friday. The All-BIG EAST honorees were chosen by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Madsen leads the Hoyas with a 72.54 stroke average and has logged a pair of top-5 finishes on the year. He earned medalist honors at the ECU Intercollegiate after shooting a 218 to force a three-way playoff after firing back-to-back birdies to close out his final round. Madsen went on to win the sudden-death playoff in the second hole of the three-man showdown and was tabbed the BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week for his efforts.
A repeat selection, Madsen was named All-BIG EAST First Team as a junior. During his tenure on the Hilltop, he has posted three consecutive top-10 finishes at the BIG EAST Championships.
Georgetown looks to win its second BIG EAST Championship in the past three seasons next week in South Carolina. The Hoyas previously won the 2016 title at the Callawassie Island Golf Club's Dogwood and Magnolia courses.
