Men's Soccer Releases 2018 Schedule

June 7, 2018

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer program released its schedule for 2018 on Thursday. The Hoyas will play a challenging nonconference slate, and also has an exciting BIG EAST Conference schedule.

In 20 total games in 2018, including three exhibitions, the Hoyas will face seven 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including the reigning national champions Stanford, and six teams ranked in the final national poll.

The Blue & Gray will play nine regular season home games including four against conference opponents. GU will host Xavier on Sep. 15 to open the conference schedule. The squad will also host DePaul (Sep. 21), Villanova (Oct. 13) and St. John's (Oct. 27).

"Our 2018 schedule is one to be excited about," said Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese. "The BIG EAST will be another dog fight, and our out of conference games are designed to prepare us as best as possible for it."

The Hoyas' BIG EAST road schedule opens at Marquette (Sep. 29). That game will be followed by Butler (Oct. 5), Seton Hall (Oct. 20), Providence (Oct. 24) and Creighton in the season finale on Oct. 31. The Bulldogs earned a spot in last year's NCAA Tournament after an outstanding campaign where they finished the season ranked No. 12 in the nation.

Georgetown will open the season with two road exhibition games against Delaware on Aug. 11 and Virginia on Aug. 18. The Cavaliers were ranked No. 19 in the final poll of the season and earned an NCAA Tournament berth a season ago. In between games, the Hoyas will face Penn State at home on Aug. 14.

The Blue & Gray will open the regular season in South Carolina with a pair of games. GU will travel to face the Gamecocks on Aug. 24, before playing at Coastal Carolina on Aug. 26. Coastal was an NCAA Tournament team ranked No. 15 in the nation last year. This opening weekend will be followed by a pair of home games over Labor Day Weekend as the Hoyas host Radford on Aug. 31 and top-ranked Stanford on Sep. 3.

Georgetown will host one more game welcoming Yale to the Hilltop on Sep. 9, before opening BIG EAST play against Xavier capping off a four-game homestand.

The final three challenging nonconference games will be interspersed between BIG EAST matchups. The Blue & Gray will travel to Duke on Sept. 18 before hosting Louisville on Sept. 25. The final non-conference game is scheduled for Oct. 8 against local rival Maryland at 3 p.m. All three squads appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament and Duke and Louisville were ranked in the final poll at No. 13 and No. 7, respectively.

The BIG EAST Championship will be played at home sites, with the higher seed hosting. The top six teams in the league will qualify for the championship with the top two seeds earning a first round bye. The first round is scheduled for Nov. 3, while the semifinals will be played on Nov. 7. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11.
