WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball squad released its 2018-19 nonconference schedule on Wednesday. The Hoyas will play six home games and five road contests including two games in the 2018 South Pointe Thanksgiving Shootout.
"We are excited about the lineup that we have for the upcoming season," said Georgetown Head Coach
James Howard. "It is a very challenging schedule as we play a number of NCAA teams from the 2017-18 season. Our nonconference schedule will definitely prepare us for the BIG EAST."
Georgetown will face five teams that advanced to the postseason in 2018, including three NCAA Tournament qualifiers that all advanced to the Sweet 16.
The season will tip off on the road as the Hoyas travel to Richmond on Nov. 6 for a matchup at the Robins Center. The last meeting between the Hoyas and Spiders was a 65-57 GU loss during the 2014-15 season.
Georgetown will open at home on Nov. 9 as the Blue & Gray welcomes the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks to McDonough Arena for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Hoyas are 4-0 all-time against the Hawks with the last meeting coming in 2015. This will be followed by the conclusion of a home-and-home series with the Loyola (Maryland) Greyhounds on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. In the meeting in Maryland, the Hoyas managed the 72-54 victory.
On Friday, Nov. 16, the Hoyas will travel to James Madison for a 7 p.m. game against the Dukes. The Hoyas hold a 3-2 series advantage over JMU with the last meeting coming in 2009. The Dukes appeared in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) a season ago.
Georgetown will return home with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The two squads have not met since the Panthers were members of the BIG EAST Conference, departing after the 2013 season.
A trip to Las Vegas over Thanksgiving will be a challenging weekend for the Blue & Gray as the squad plays Buffalo on Nov. 23 followed by Baylor on Nov. 24 in the South Pointe Thanksgiving Shootout. Both squads advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 a season ago. It will be the first meeting for the Hoyas and Buffs, GU faced Baylor in an NCAA second round game in 2010.
A three-game homestand will begin on Nov. 29 as the Hoyas host Fordham at 7 p.m. The Rams appeared in the WNIT a season ago, the last meeting with Georgetown was a 2017 WNIT matchup in The District. VCU comes to town on Dec. 2 for a 2 p.m. contest. Last season, the Hoyas defeated the Rams, 71-59, in Richmond. GU will close out the home nonconference slate on Dec. 8 as the squad battles NC State at 1 p.m. The Blue & Gray fell to the Wolfpack in North Carolina last season.
Georgetown will finish off nonconference play at Rider on Dec. 21 following a break for finals. The contest against the Broncs is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Hoyas are 5-0 all-time against the Broncs with the last meeting coming in 2011.
Georgetown ended the season with a mark of 16-16 overall. The team made history advancing to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals for the first time in 19 seasons, and made it to the second round of the WNIT for the first time since 2009. The squad graduated three seniors, but will have a solid core of players returning in 2018-19.
