WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team shot a two-round score of 30-over par 606 to finish 18th at the 15th annual Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston at the par 72, 6,261-yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, South Carolina. Due to the approach of Hurricane Florence, Tuesday's final round has been cancelled and the tournament shortened to 36 holes.
 
Florida finished atop the strong 19-team field, which included eight teams ranked inside the top 25 at the end of last season and 11 teams that participated in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Gators shot a 30-under par 546 to finish ahead of Vanderbilt (27-under par 549) and Arkansas (16-under par 278). Furman (11-under par 565) and Florida State (8-under par 568) rounded out the top five.
 
Senior Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C. / Episcopal [Va.]) was Georgetown's top scorer, carding identical 74 scores in each round to finish at 4-over par 148. She birdied two of the final four holes on Monday to move into a tie for 48th place.
 
Senior Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J. / Kent Place) fired GU's top score of the second round, turning in a 1-over par 73 to put her at 5-over par 149 for the tournament. She recorded birdies on three of the final five holes to finish in a tie for 59th.
 
Senior Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla. / St. Andrew's) finished in a tie for 83rd place with a 10-over par 154, while junior Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash. / Eastlake Senior) was one stroke behind her at 11-over par 155, tying for 88th.
 
Sophomore Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, N.C. / Pinecrest), playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished at 18-over par 162.
 
The Hoyas will next be in action the weekend of Sept. 22-23 for the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State, in State College, Pennsylvania.
