WASHINGTON – Georgetown University senior middle blocker Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill. / Oak Park-River Forest) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Speech led the Hoyas to a perfect 3-0 record over the weekend at the Dig The District Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.

In addition, senior libero Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va. / Forest Park) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Georgetown defeated Morgan State 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 26-24) on Friday before beating Alabama A&M 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-10) and Loyola Maryland 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-23) on Saturday.

Speech posted double-digit kills in two of the three matches, recording 15 kills against Alabama A&M and 13 kills against Loyola. She hit .449 (37-6-69) over the weekend, including .400 (15-3-30) against Alabama A&M and .684 (13-0-19) against Loyola. Speech also had five digs and two service aces against AAMU while notching three blocks against both Morgan State and Loyola.

Higareda recorded double-figure digs in all three matches on the weekend. She collected 15 digs against Morgan State, 18 digs against Alabama A&M and 20 digs against Loyola. Higareda tied or had the match-high in digs for all three matches.
