Georgetown Closes Nonconference Play at Brown

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team opens up a three-game road trip when it visits Brown University on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Brown Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island. Saturday's contest is GU's third straight against an Ivy League opponent and wraps up nonconference play for the Hoyas.

Georgetown nearly came back against Columbia last weekend, falling 23-15 in a Homecoming matchup at Cooper Field. It marks the second-straight season that the Lions have retained the Lou Little Trophy, named after College Football Hall of Fame Head Coach Lou Little who coached at both Georgetown and Columbia, after the Hoyas won the first two meetings of the series.

The Hoyas trailed 23-0 early in the fourth quarter, but touchdowns by Jay Tolliver (Columbus, Ohio / Gahanna Lincoln) and Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) closed the deficit to one score. GU drove down to the 9-yard line late in regulation, but could not punch it in to tie the game. Gunther Johnson (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek / Arizona) finished 18-of-38 for 228 yards and a touchdown, while Williams led the receiving corps with seven catches for 121 yards and the touchdown. Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La. / St. Augustine / Loomis Chaffee) led the defense with a career-high 14 tackles, while Khristian Tate (Warner Robins, Ga. / Covenant Academy) and Owen Kessler (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) each had 11 tackles. Tate also added 1.0 sacks and 3.5 TFL.

Williams and Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass / Williston Northampton) each surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards against Columbia and both Brown and Williams were both named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Monday for their performances.

Saturday will be the sixth all-time meeting between Georgetown and Brown, and the first since 2014. The Hoyas are just 1-4 against the Bears, but won the most recent matchup, 17-3, on the Hilltop. GU rushed for 250 yards and passed for 177 more in the win, while the defense held Brown out of the end zone and forced four turnovers.

Brown enters this weekend's matchup with an 0-2 record after dropping its first two games to Cal Poly and Harvard. The Bears have given up 75 points and 987 yards of total offense in their two contests, including 657 rushing yards. Sophomore quarterback Michael McGovern has passed for 605 yards and two touchdowns this season, while throwing three interceptions. Jakob Prall and Anton Casey lead the receiving corps with 182 and 125 yards, respectively. Defensively, Michael Hoecht leads the squad with 22 tackles and has one of Brown's two sacks.

Following Saturday's game, the Hoyas will remain on the road to open up their 18th season in the Patriot League play at Fordham University. Kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 6 is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Bronx, New York.
