McDonough Selected 35th Overall in MLS SuperDraft

WASHINGTON –  Georgetown University men's soccer defender Brendan McDonough (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) was selected by the Vancouver Whitecaps with the 35th overall selection of the 2019 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Friday. McDonough was the 11th pick of the second round.

A team captain McDonough was a Second Team All-East Region and a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection in 2018. He and the defense managed a league-best 10 shutouts on the season.  McDonough had one goal and one assist on the year for three points.  His lone goal was the game winner against Marquette in the BIG EAST Championship.

In his career, McDonough was a two-time all-region selection, twice named All-BIG EAST and a two-year captain for the Blue & Gray.  In the classroom, he was named BIG EAST All-Academic for three-consecutive years.  The defender appeared in 63 games with 56 starts.  He scored two goals and managed two assists for six career points.  The team won three BIG EAST Championships and appeared in as many NCAA Tournaments.

McDonough graduated in December with a degree in international business regional studies from the McDonough School of Business.

With McDonough's signing, Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese has now had 19 players drafted or sign with an MLS club in his tenure on the Hilltop. He has had at least one player drafted by an MLS club every year for the past seven seasons.
