– The Georgetown swimming & diving team is currently in Puerto Rico for its annual winter training trip. Throughout the Hoyas' week-long stay, GUHoyas.com will receive updates from members of the team. Today's first update is from freshman Matthew Braviak
(Rockville, Md. / Gonzaga).
After a long first day traveling to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, the Hoyas finally made it!
We have already tackled three practices in a little over 24 hours. Our first day (Dec. 31) consisted of a 7 a.m. flight to San Juan, followed by a very cool trip through the mountains to Ponce. The team stopped for groceries and fuel on the way to the resort.
When we arrived, the team was able to relax on the beach and hang out by the pool before the first dinner of the trip. After a relaxing few hours of team building activities, we had an early wake-up call for 6 a.m. practice the next morning. Following a tough first morning practice, the team hung out in the sun, played beach volleyball with the coaches and swam a bit in the ocean. Our first full day ended with another practice as the sun set.
After a long first day of swimming and diving, the Hoyas geared up for a combined workout with the Harvard men's team on Wednesday morning. After a long combined practice as the sun rose over Ponce, the Hoyas prepared for another day of team bonding while enjoying the hot and sunny weather.
