WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team opened the 2019 season against Army in Arlington, Virginia. on Saturday afternoon at the Army Navy Country Club. The squad fell to the Black Knights 6-1, but had some solid performances to start the season off.
In doubles action, the Hoyas battled in hopes of securing the victory, but dropped two matches to one. Senior
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and freshman partner
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) picked up a victory on the day, defeating Einck and DiMaio 7-5.
In singles,
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) started her senior season on a high note, defeating her opponent 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) and
Renee Repella (Lansdale, Pa. / Germantown Academy) both battled their opponents to three sets with Moenster dropping the third 10-8.
The Hoyas are back in action on Friday, Jan. 25 as they travel to Griffith, Indiana to take on the Butler Bulldogs. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
