WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team (1-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) defeated Butler 5-2, in its BIG EAST opener on Friday afternoon in Griffith, Indiana.
The Hoyas picked up the doubles point, defeating the Bulldogs two matches to one. Senior
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) and partner sophomore
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) defeated their opponent 6-3 while senior
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and freshman
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) edged the Bulldogs 6-4.
In singles, Moenster battled her opponent to three sets, winning the final set 10-8 to seal the deal. Goodson defeated Sarah Monesmith in a commanding win, 6-4, 6-0 while Nakagawa and De Santis also defeated their Bulldog opponents in two sets each, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-3 respectively. Freshman
Renee Repella (Lansdale, Pa. / Germantown Academy) fell to her opponent in a hard-fought battle after winning the first set 6-3.
Georgetown takes on the DePaul Blue Demons at 4 p.m. on Jan. 26 to round out its BIG EAST road trip. The match will be played at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness in Chicago.
