WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team closed out its fall season over the weekend with a big win at the Rose Bowl Regatta in Long Beach, California. This marks the sixth year in a row that the Hoyas have won the event, finishing with a total of 45 points while defeating second-place finisher St. Mary's College (Md.) by 20 points. UC Santa Barbara, Tufts and Northwestern rounded out the rest of the top five.
Sailing out of the U.S. Center in Long Beach, the Rose Bowl Regatta featured 22 collegiate teams from all over the country, coinciding at the same time with a high school event featuring 74 teams.
The Blue & Gray featured a team of West Coast sailors who were familiar with the fickle conditions in Long Beach. In Division A, GU dominated the competition. Senior
Andy Reiter (Point Loma, Calif. / /Point Loma) and junior
Gwyneth Dunlevy (San Francisco, Calif. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) won eight of the nine races tallying 15 points to take first place. In Division B, freshman
Jack Reiter (Point Loma, Calif. / Point Loma) and sophomore
Marley Mais (Newport Beach, Calif. / Newport Harbor) won the last race and finished six of the nine races among the top three. Reiter and Mais completed Division B second overall to help the Hoyas win the regatta with a combined score of 45 points.
The spring season for the Hoyas will begin in early February
