No. 12 Georgetown to Face No. 25 Terps on Monday

WASHINGTON – The No. 12 Georgetown University men's soccer team will make the trip to College Park for a Monday evening matchup against the No. 25 University of Maryland Terrapins at Ludwig Field.  The Hoyas are currently 9-1-1 on the season as the UMD contest closes out nonconference play.  The Terps sit at 6-3-2 on the year.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 2-0 victory over Seton Hall on Friday at Shaw Field.  In just his third game this season, Achara scored both goals to make it two in a row for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Hoyas got on the board in the 50th minute as a shot by Jack Beer was saved by the Pirate keeper, but the rebound went to Achara who sent it back in for the goal.
  • In the final minute of action, a keeper clear was intercepted by Achara who scored on the open net to give the Hoyas the 2-0 victory.
  • The Hoyas outshot the Pirates 26-4 with 10 shots on goal to The Hall's two.  Georgetown held the 7-5 advantage in corner kicks and Nikopolidis picked up his second-straight clean sheet with two saves on the afternoon.
  • Junior captain Derek Dodson leads the team in scoring with 11 points on three goals and five assists.  He is followed by Jacob Montes with five goals for 10 points.
  • Sophomore Zach Riviere is third on the team with four goals and one assist for nine points, while Paul Rothrock rounds out the top four with a goal and a squad-high six assists for eight points on the season.
  • Monday marks the final game in three contests in seven days for the Blue & Gray.  The squad faced Lehigh on Tuesday and then Seton Hall with Maryland ending the tough stretch.
  • This will be Georgetown's second contest against a ranked opponent this season.  GU's lone loss came at then-No. 17 Louisville 1-0 in double overtime.
 
About the Terrapins
  • The Terps are unbeaten in their last five matches with a record of 3-0-2. 
  • On Friday, Maryland tied Michigan State 1-1 in double overtime in East Lansing.
  • The squads have just one common opponent so far, as Maryland fell to UCLA 3-2, and the Hoyas defeated the Bruins 5-1.
  • Maryland is led by Malcolm Johnston and Eric Matzelevich who have six points apiece.
  • Following Monday's contest, the Terps have one more nonconference game remaining facing Yale on October 21.
 
Series History
  • Georgetown is 3-29-2 all-time against the Terps but all three victories have come in the last five seasons including two on the road.
  • Last year, the squads played to a 0-0 double overtime tie at Shaw Field.
  • The last meeting at Ludwig Field was a 1-0 victory in 2017 as then-freshman Montes scored the game winner on a pass from Christopher Lema in the 88th minute.
