Women’s Rowing Opens Fall Season at Navy Day

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's rowing team opened its fall racing schedule at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday. Both the lightweight and openweight squads competed on the Schuykill River, with the Hoyas winning both the openweight 4+ and freshman/novice 4+ races.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
•    Georgetown had three boats finish in the top four spots of the openweight 4+ race. The Hoya 'A' boat finished in 14:54.92, more than 11 seconds faster than second-place Marist. The Georgetown 'B' and 'C' crews posted times of 15:10.53 and 15:31.31, respectively to record the third- and fourth- fastest times in the head race.
•    The Hoyas finished second in the lightweight 4+ race with a time of 15:56.30.
•    Georgetown had three boats in the 2V 8+ race, placing second, third and sixth overall. The 'A' boat finished in 14:14:63, the 'B' crew in 14:39.24 and the 'C' squad in 14:51.09.
•    With two boats in the openweight 4X, the Hoyas finished third and fourth with times of 15:23.76 and 15:24.90.
•    The Hoyas also had two crews in the openweight 8+ race, finishing second to Patriot League rival Navy with a time of 13:34.46 and fifth overall with a time of 13:53.21.
•    Bookending the regatta with a victory, the Hoyas won the freshman/novice 4+ race in dominating fashion, crossing the finish line in 16:04.00, nearly 40 seconds faster than the second-place boat from Fairfield.

NEXT UP
Georgetown heads up to Boston next weekend to take part in the Head of the Charles Regatta on Oct. 19-20.
