Volleyball Hosts Trio of BIG EAST Foes

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team welcomes three BIG EAST opponents to the Hilltop this week. The Hoyas take on St. John's on Wednesday before battling DePaul and No. 12 Marquette on Friday and Saturday, respectively. All three matches are slated for a 5 p.m. first serve.

QUICK HITS
•    Georgetown is 11-8 overall to start the season and has gone 1-4 in BIG EAST play to begin league action.
•    The Hoyas are coming off a tough 3-0 midweek loss at Seton Hall last week. Georgetown was idle over the weekend.
•    The weekend series concludes a string of 5-of-6 contests played at McDonough Arena on the Hilltop.

ROTATION NOTES
•    Six different Hoyas are averaging at least a kill per set.
•    Vujosevic leads the way with 3.65 kps, followed by Elissa Barbosa with 2.42 kps. Margo Snipe (1.78), Peyton Wilhite (1.53), Brennan Wilhite (1.33) and Riley Wertzberger (1.29) and round out the six.
•    Five Hoyas average at least two digs a set, led by Jessica Cusi's 3.74 and followed by Vujosevic (2.72), Barbosa (2.40), Emma Plutnicki (2.15) and Kelly Chen (2.05).
•    Serrett and Brennan Wilhite are battling for the team lead in blocks, posting 49 and 48, respectively.
•    Plutnicki averages 8.07 assists per set to pace the offense with Margo Pivonka adds 4.11 aps.
•    Vujosevic has recorded 33 service aces on the year, followed by Cusi with 21 and both Plutnicki and Barbosa with 13 each.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
St. John's
•    Georgetown and St. John's have faced each other 31 times before, playing at least once a year since 1994. The Red Storm currently holds a 21-10 advantage in the series.
•    The Hoyas and SJU split the season series in 2018, beating each other in five sets on their own home courts.
•    St. John's is 12-8 overall to start the 2019 campaign and has a 4-3 mark in league matches.
•    Efrosini Alexakou leads the Johnnies with 4.05 kills per set while Rachele Rastelli and Klara Mikelova both add over 2.80 kps.
•    Erica Di Maulo paces the offense with 9.75 assists per set.
•    Defensively, Adriani Kathariou averaged 1.11 blocks per set and Amanda Sanabia averages 3.88 digs per set.

DePaul
•    Georgetown in 15-10 all-time against DePaul. The two teams have split the meetings in each of the past two seasons.
•    The Blue Demons are 10-8 overall and 2-4 in BIG EAST play.
•    Brittany Maxwell leads DPU with 3.65 kills per set while Emma Price and Donna Brown both average more than 2.0 kps.
•    DePaul runs a 6-2 offense with Katie Dolan (5.40 aps) and Natalie Hayward (5.31 aps) running the show.
•    Isabelle Banez anchors the defense with 5.03 digs per set and Brown has notched 52 blocks on the year.

No. 12 Marquette
•    Marquette dropped its first BIG EAST match of the season last week in a showdown with Creighton.
•    The Golden Eagles come to the Hilltop ranked No. 12 in the nation. Marquette plays at Villanova on Friday before facing the Hoyas.
•    Georgetown is 4-17 al-time against Marquette. The last Hoya victory came in 2010 in a five-set thriller in McDonough Arena.
•    Allie Barber leads Marquette with 4.60 kills per set, followed by Kaitlyn Lines (3.09) and Hope Werch (3.04).
•    Lauren Speckman and Sarah Rose run the 6-2 offense, combining for 12.00 assists per set.
•    Martha Konovodoff leads the back row defense with 4.63 digs per set.
